Introduction of fees for Employment Tribunal claims

Summer 2013: Fees for Employment Tribunal Claims

The Government has announced that fees are to be introduced for Claimants who bring claims in the Employment Tribunals, expected to take effect from July 2013. The fee will be chargeable on submission of the claim form and will vary depending on the type and complexity of the claim. It the claim proceeds to hearing a further fee will become payable. There will be a further fee for withdrawing the claim upon settlement.

Employment Tribunals will be empowered to order reimbursement of fees to the successful party.

It is anticipated that mandatory pre-claim conciliation through ACAS will be introduced into the system: a bill is currently going through parliament on this issue.
